Pesaro’s waterfront is reimagined as a continuous inhabited landscape, reconnecting the city with the Adriatic through movement, nature and public life. Drawing on the city’s musical heritage, the project adopts harmony as its guiding principle, composing architecture, landscape and infrastructure as interconnected elements within a single urban rhythm.
A sinuous promenade becomes the defining gesture. Rising gently above the beach before descending again towards the water, it creates an evolving sequence of belvederes, gardens, shaded spaces and public rooms, while opening renewed views towards the sea. Its changing section transforms the conventional linear promenade into a three-dimensional public landscape, connecting city and beach while creating new opportunities for gathering, walking, cycling and contemplation.
Materiality and landscape reinforce this dialogue with place. Timber follows the movement of the promenade, contemporary ceramics reinterpret Pesaro’s tradition of maiolica istoriata, while Mediterranean planting introduces shade, colour, fragrance and seasonal variation. Towards the marina, the architecture gradually dissolves into a more natural coastal landscape of dunes and resilient vegetation, allowing the waterfront to transition between urban intensity and ecological character.
More than a promenade, the project becomes a piece of connective urban infrastructure: a new civic ground where city and sea, culture and nature, movement and pause coexist. Like an andante in music, the architecture establishes a measured rhythm, inviting people to slow down, move through the landscape and rediscover the Adriatic as part of everyday urban life. The result is not simply a renewed waterfront, but a new public identity for Pesaro, where architecture becomes the score for a more open, inclusive and enduring relationship between the city and the sea.
